How do the Anions and Cations of the salt differently affect the pH? How would the following salts affect the pH? Raise pH? Lower pH? No Effect?

1) CsCl (Cesium Chloride)

2) NH4Br (Ammonium Bromide)

3) NaCN (Sodium Cyanide)

4) NH4F (Ammonium Fluoride)

The addition of salt causes the volume of the water to change. But since that salt does not release or bind to the water's hydrogen atoms to jumpstart a reaction, the pH level of the water will remain the same.

If the acids are excreted from the roots, they are dissolved as anions and will make the soil near the root more alkaline, like other anions. Usually these exudates will have a minor influence on the pH compared to the strong effect of H+ -ion excretion.

Note that all cations, except those of alkali and alkaline earth metals ( which do not hydrolyze in water and, therefore, do not affect pH ), act as weak acids in solution. ... The relative concentrations of these ions then determine the acidic or basic properties of the solution.

Here in given example

Cscl - no effect on ph

NH4Br- lower the Ph

Nacn- raise the ph

NH4Br- lower the Ph.
