Create a scenario in which animals infected with Leptospirosis infects a population. Tell how the population is infected, what are the signs and symptoms, what are the treatment methods and what is the prognosis.

Infection can occur through -

  • Urine or other bodily fluids from animals (except saliva )
  • Drinking contaminated water which contains the bacteria
  • Open wound infection by direct contact .
  • Through soil .

Signs and symptoms -

  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Vomiting
  • Yellowish eyes
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

Treatments-

  • Oral antibiotics (doxycycline ) - in early days of the disease
  • Intravenous antibiotics- In severe cases .

Prognosis -

Prognosis of mild disease ( which are 90% of the cases ) is good .

Prognosis of severe cases (5-10 %) is poor.
