Create a scenario where you are counseling a 20 year old female who comes to your office (you are a health care professional) who thinks she has chlamydia and needs education, including symptoms, treatment options, and prevention (she does not have the illness or disease once you examine her and get any lab tests back). How important is it to promote wellness and prevention to this age group?

First of all , I would create a therapeutic relationship with the patient and then encourage her to express her concerns about the disease . Then I would provide her information regarding the disease condition which she needs to be aware of .

Chlamydia is a bacterial disease that is caused by the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia trachomatis is the most commonly known STI for of chlamydia. The pathogen of PID is a combination of agents, but it is most commonly bacteria.

#. How is it caused ?

Chlamydia is most commonly sexually transmitted. It can also be passed on from a pregnant mother to her unborn child, causing eye infections and even pneumonia. It is most commonly transmitted through sexual activity.

#. Symptoms: Women :-

Although most women with Chlamydia do not have symptoms, some of the symptoms are:

Pain while urinating

Pain in the lower abdomen

Itching or burning around the private area

Painful intercourse and

Vaginal Discharge

#. Long term health risks :-

Some of the long term health risks of chlamydia are:

It can cause sterility in both men an women. May be passed on to an unborn child, causing eye damage or eye infections and possibly pneumonia. May lead to PID. May lead to ectopic or tubal pregnancy.

Scarring on reproductive organs

Irregular menstrual cycle

Chronic pelvic pain

Increase chances of ectopic pregnancy

Sterility

#. Treatment :-

Antibiotics

Hospitalization in some cases

Warm sitz baths

Bed rest

Complete abstinence is imperative to prevent further health risks

Providing health education to the teen age groups about the sexually transmitted disease is a very important topic because it is such an age group which gets involved in many anti social activities which can lead to many complicated health issues such as unwanted pregnancies , sexually transmitted diseases etc . Providing education about this will help the teen to avoid such conditions and help her in health promotion.
