Intelligent transportation system (ITS):
In transportation and traffic engineering, Intelligent transport systems may be defined as a system which provides innovative services relating to different modes of transport in a safe and effective way.
ITS Project:
BRT project:
BRT project is called as bus rapid transit project, it is a very common ITS system adopted throughout the world and has gained a lot of attention, currently the Indonesian network has the largest network of 230.9 KM which connects the corridors of Indonesian capital Jakarta from east to west, Apart from Jakarta, 165 cities from the 6 continents have adopted the BRT system and a few cities are in the phase of construction and execution.
This system was first adopted in 1973 in Canada, then it was adopted by almost all the continents of the world, but for a limited phase and a very limited distance in many of the cities.
The BRT system as the name indicates bus rapid transit system is a system that is designed for the movement of transit particularly buses without the interference of the congested lanes of traffic, in emergency cases this lane may be used by ambulance and police as well. We can see that in our daily life using public transport is unavoidable but this often leads to delays due to heavy congestion of traffic in major cities, the solution to this delays is the BRT system, this ITS is dedicated particularly for buses and it has no interference with the congested traffic, it has other facilities like prepayment of fare in the bus stop itself which will lead to less delay, the intersection treatment like prohibition of turns minimizes the delay, the provision of the platform level boarding will be helpful for wheel chair users, disabled passengers and baby strollers for minimizing the delay.
Purpose of the project:
(1) Minimizing the delay for transit systems from the traffic congestion
(2) Improves the local and regional mobility
(3) Enhancing the environmental quality by reducing pollution by using transit systems
(4) BRT systems are useful in reducing the accidents rate, the implementation of BRT systems have reduced the accidents by 40% in latin america.
