  • Mainly the strains of Rickettsia prowazekii could be observed in humans and in squirrels.
  • The only reservoir for Rickettsia prowazekii is humans.
  • Head louse, in humans feeds on the blood of humans.
  • The lice are obligate ectoparasites which spread the Rickettsia prowazekii from one human to another.
  • Lice upon infection show Rickettsiales in their faeces.
  • When the infected lice feed on the blood of the person, the infected lice excrete their feces rich in Rickettsia to the baited wound and spread disease.
