SPEC ratio is used to compare the performance of a device with a reference device in regards to a particular benchmark.
SPEC ratio = time taken by reference computer / time taken by device whose rating is to be measured
_______________________________________________________________
(a) Here we have to compute SPEC ratio with respect to the Integer benchmark.
Reference time = 2 sec
Time taken by device = 500 ms = 0.5 sec
SPEC ratio = 2 / 0.5 = 4
_______________________________________________________________
(b) SPEC score is the geometric mean of all the SPEC ratios of the computer.
We have already computed the SPEC ratio of the Integer benchmark. Let's do the same for other benchmarks.
For the Encryption benchmark,
Reference time = 8 sec
Time taken by device = 2000 ms = 2 sec
SPEC ratio = 8 / 2 = 4
For the Graphics benchmark,
Reference time = 0.8 sec
Time taken by device = 100 ms = 0.1 sec
SPEC ratio = 0.8 / 0.1 = 8
For the Database benchmark,
Reference time = 2 sec
Time taken by device = 500 ms = 0.5 sec
SPEC ratio = 2 / 0.5 = 4
Finally, we calculate the SPEC score as follows :
SPEC score = ( 4 * 4 * 8 * 4)1/4 = (512)1/4 = 4.756
Since, we are asked to round it to the nearest integer, the answer becomes 5.
