There are many kinds of family structure. Many variations of family are seen nowadays, for example same sex couples, single parent household, cohabitation, etc. We are going to discuss about single parent households.

When only one parent raises their children, it is called single parent household. The number of single parent household is increasing day by day. Many reasons are there behind this. Stability in relationship has decreased drastically in recent years. Parents don't want to adjust their lives with each other. Very small things lead to separation of couples. Many kind of single parent household exists for example: divorced single parent household, widowed single parent household, being single parent by choice. Becoming a single parent and raising their child by only one hand is quite difficult. Nowadays increasing number of parents choose to become single parent. In spite of difficulties and challenges they opt to become single parent. Divorced single parent faces more challenges to raise their children plus running a household. Divorced single parent is not able to spend more time with his or her children because of shortage of time, they have to earn as well as take care of their children. Divorced or widowed single parent often faces financial challenges to run his or her household. Single parent has to arrange daycare for whole day to his or her children, this becomes an extra burden on their pocket. Along with monetary issues single parent often faces some psychological challenges as well. Single parent often feels loneliness which leads to lots of stress and tension. Children of single parent household also face challenges. Children feel neglected in the society, however in present situation number of such children have increased so the issue of feeling neglected has lessened. Children of such parents have more responsibilities in their home so their playtime reduces. They don't get love and care of both parents so they lack in confidence which can lead to less education.

When we look at the facts and figures of single parent household we can see that the number is increasing every single day, but still this is a fact that being a single parent is not that much easy as it looks. Single parent has to face numerous challenges in raising their children and running their household. When we discuss about the acceptance of single parent household in our society we can say that in present time this variation of family is being accepted. Some parts of world has good approval for this single parent household but some parts of world are still struggling with social stigmas.
