APPLYING YOUR KNOWLEDGE: A group of Santa Fe College students is studying the effects of forest canopy cover on understory plant growth in North Woods located across the street from SF College. Using what you learned in the lab about photosynthesis, design an experiment that measures the effect of canopy cover on photosynthetic rates. Forest canopy affects the growth of plants located below the shade of canopy. The plants' rate of photosynthesis becomes low due to amount of light received by the plants is limiting. Normally sciophytes can grow under the canopy beacuase they are shade loving plants.

Following questions can be expected from experiment:-

1. What is impact of canopy on plants growing under it?

2. How the growth of plants is affected?

3. Which factor is limiting to affect the growth of plants?

4. Name the plants that can be grown under canopy?

5. How the rate of photosynthesis can be measured?

Hypothesis & experiment:-

To know the impact on growth we can conduct an experiment, we can make a set up to know the plants' photosynthesis rate. It can be measured by measuring the intake of CO2 by plants. More the CO2 is taken, more the rate of photosynthesis.

The different plants are compared and we can make the list of plants and their photosynthetic efficiency.

And finally we can conclude the results.
