  1. Helps polymerase in Prokaryotes bind more strongly - Operators, it directs the polymerase to bind strongly with the transcriptional binding factors like sigma factors to initialize transcription.
  2. Complimentary binds to mRNA and stops translation - Attenuators, these are regulatory regions of 5'-cis that binds to mRNA and stops translation.
  3. Digests unneeded protein - Ubiquitization, it is a endogenous protein which mainly helps in protein digestion mechanism.It is a post-translational modification.
  4. Causes DNA bending so that polymerases binds strongly - Quenching, it helps to form a loop or DNA bending which is the result of histone deacetylation.
  5. They hold mRNA for use or degradation - P bodies, these are cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotein granules which is involved in mRNA decay pathway in eukaryotes.
  6. Often forms heterodimers - Leucine zippers, these are made by dimerization of two alpha helix monomers which is bound to DNA.
  7. Binds to activator so can not bind to promoter - Enhancers, it binds to activators which in turn activates the gene that is to be expressed. Enhancers cannot bind to promoter.
