Question

Part C: Post Lab Questions for Lab 9 Complete the Lab before you work on these four questions (1) Ohms Law is v= 1 R, the Voltage [Volts] = Current [Amp] x Resistance [Ohms]. The current that flows through the battery depends on the total resistance in the circuit and the voltage of the battery. In the following circuit, a 10 Volt battery is connected in series with three resistors: Ri-1000 Ohms, R-500 Ohms, and R1-1500 Ohms a. What is the total Resistance, Rcotal? b. What is the current that flows through the battery? c. If another resistor is added in series with the current increase or decrease? R1 R2 R3 10 Voits (2) Now the three resistors from question 1 are connected in parallel as illustrated below. a. What is the total Resistance of this configuration? b. What Current flows through the battery? c. If another Resistor is attached in parallel with the existing three resistors, will the total resistance increase or decrease? Will the current through the battery increase or decrease? R1 R2 R3 10 Volts

Answer #1

(1)

a) Total resistance, R = 1000+500+1500 = 3000 \Omega

b) Current flows through the battery I = V/R = 10/3000 = 0.003333 A

c) If another resistance is added in series then the total resistance of the circuit will increase and the current flow will decrease.
