Tom A: Acute IgG=64; Convalescent IgG=256
Does Tom have a current (or very recent) Dengue infection? Why or why not?
Acute IgG are the immunoglobulins that are formed when the virus infects the host. These are formed immediately after the virus infects. The convalescent immunoglobulins are formed when the patient is recovering or has recovered. A patient affected with dengue recently will have a high acute IgG values and a low convalescent value whereas a patient with low acute IgG and high convalescent IgG has a very recent dengue infection. The acute IgG matures in time to be converted to convalescent IgG and help in the immunological roles to stop the dengue infection. Hence Tom has had a very recent attack of dengue infection which can be seen from high convalescent IgG and relatively low acute IgG.
If you have any query kindly comment before giving thumbs up. Thank you.

Testing for IgG and IgM antibodies can help determine whether an infection is acute, chronic or from the past. Explain and justify the proper collection of a serological specimen for H. pylori testing. Why is it important to know the patient history and how might this influence the interpretation of the results?
