Question

Uses of BLAST searches How could a BLAST search best be used to provide more insight into a newly-discovered DNA sequence? Check All That Apply It can determine if the sequence produces a genetic disorder in humans. It provides more information about the level of expression of the new sequence. It can determine if the genes expression is modified by alternative splicing. It can reveal the types of or isms that contain that sequence. Prev 4 of 4H Next >

Answer #1

I believe the correct answer to be:

Option D) it can reveal the types of organisms that contain the sequence.

As this is what BLAST of a sequence does, as it shows the similar sequence that is present in different organisms and also shows how much similarity there is with the original sequence that can is used to create phylogenies.

    2. A dominant allele H reduces the number of body bristles that Drosophila flies have, giving rise to a “hairless” phenotype. In the homozygous condition, H is lethal. An independently assorting dominant allele S has no effect on bristle number except in the presence of H, in which case a single dose of S suppresses the hairless phenotype, thus restoring the "hairy" phenotype. However, S also is lethal in the homozygous (S/S) condition. What ratio of hairy to hairless flies...
