The recommended daily dietary allowance for a mineral among men older than 50 is 15mg/day. Based on data of 100 men ages 60-70, it is known that X = 10 and s = 6. Does this data suggest that the average daily intake of the mineral in the population for men ages 60-70 falls below the recommended allowance? Perform a level 0.01 test.

(OR) TRY THIS ANSWER

As we are testing here whether the mean daily intake of the mineral in the population is less than 15, therefore the null and the alternative hypothesis here are given as:

Ho : = 15

H, :μ< 15

The test statistic here is computed as:

X-PO ** 10 - 15 6 100 -8.3333 S vn

As the test statistic value here is very very low, therefore for n - 1 = 99 degrees of freedom, the p-value computed from the t distribution tables is approximately equal to 0. As the p-value here is 0 less than 0.01, therefore the test is significant here and we can reject the null hypothesis here. Therefore we can conclude here that the mean daily intake of mineral in the population for men ages 60-70 falls below the recommended allowance of 15mg / day
