A machine has a 3.00 cm diameter copper cylinder fitted into a hole in a steel block. When both the steel block and the cylinder are at 25 °C there’s a uniform 0.05 mm gap between the cylinder and the steel block.

If the cylinder was made from steel and the plate was made from copper, is it physically possible for them to make contact by changing temperature? Again assume that at all times the temperature of the steel block is the same as the temperature of the copper cylinder.

The coefficient of linear thermal expansion of copper is 16.6x10-6 m/(m K) which is more then that of steel 12x10-6 m/(m K).
So it is possible to fill the gap by increasing temperature.
