Ans). FAD has a more positive reduction potential than NAD+ and is very strong oxidizing agent.

The only step in the Citric acid cycle in which FAD is required as the oxidant instead of NADH is Succinate is dehydrogenated to Fumarate and it is highly unusual step in the citric cycle.

The electrons received by FADH2 can transferred to coenzyme Q, which takes part in oxidation phosphorylation and, further the reaction from succinate to fumarate irreversible.
