What is the advantage of using Standard Addition rather than directly measuring a sample?
I made two calibration curve , one with IS and one without IS.
With using a standard addition method the influence of matrix presented in sample is reduced. But standard addition corrects only for multiplicative interferences ,changes in calibration curve slope, not additive interferences changes in calibration intercept, such as spectral interferences. The method of standard addition is used in instrumental analysis to determine concentration of a substance in an unknown sample by comparison to a set of samples of known concentration, similar to using a calibration curve. Standard addition can be applied to most analytical techniques and is used instead of a calibration curve to solve the matrix effect problem. Standard addition is frequently used in atomic absorption spectroscopy and gas chromatography. The matrix effect problem occurs when the unknown sample contains many impurities. If impurities present in the unknown interact with the analyte to change the instrumental response or themselves produce an instrumental response, then a calibration curve based on pure analyte samples will give an incorrect determination.

What is the chief advantage in using the standard addition method when performing a spectrophotometric determination? Select one: O A. It is not necessary to work at max when using the standard addition method B. Interference caused by impurities that may react with the absorbing species is minimized when using the standard addition method C. A broader range of absorbances can be used when employing the standard addition method O D. Two of those are true
What is the advantage of using quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) rather than a measure, such as infant mortality rate, in cost-effectiveness analyses? QALY enables comparisons to be made across different disease conditions. QALY can more easily be converted into a monetary measure. QALY incorporates multiple outcome measures, such as increase in length of life and quality of life, rather than just a single measure. a and c

2. An analyst is measuring cadmium in drinking water using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The analyst prepares a set of calibration standards between 1 ppb and 50 ppb. The calibration curve is linear between these concentrations and the linear least squares equation is y=0.0127x + 0.0710. The analyst then runs a set of 4 drinking water samples. a) [What kind of standardization was used for this calibration curve: standard addition, internal standard, or external standard?] b) For sample 1, the analyst...
Spectrophotometry help!? Would measuring the absorbance of the standard solutions used to prepare a calibration curve and the unknown sample using a wavelength 10 nm higher or lower than lambda max provide an accurate concentration value for the unknown? Explain. If in an experiment, the pathlength of the light is 1 cm, and the concentration unit of the standard solutions is reported as mM, what would the units of the molar extinction coefficient, ε, be?
