A. The experimental design used in the experiment is Matched - Pair Design.

B. Matched - Pair Design is used in the experiment because the therapy should be assigned to a homogenous groups of subjects. The goal is to maximize homogenity in each pair. In other words you want the pairs to be similar as possible.
