If you select against intermediate wing length in a population of pigeons how would you expect that to change the degree to which wing length is governed by genetics? Explain your answer
The evolutionary history of some groups of related organisms indicates a change from large to smaller organisms over a period of time. In some other groups the trend followed was to increase the small size , intermediate size to large size over a period of time. This may be due to that the organisms are mainly influenced by environment to acquire physical, physiological or behavioral characters. Size is the physical character and it is only one factor among many. The increase or decrease in the size mainly due to the organism to fit better in its environment than the other members of the species.
This character fit according to environmental change may survive and produce fertile offspring to inherit the character. In some species the large size was an advantage and the character inherited successfully. In some other species intermediate or smaller size might have gained more benefits and hence may produce fertile offspring too. Thus, acquiring the characters that fit in to environment occurs through the process of natural selection.

How would you expect heritability to change if the same population of organisms was put in a stressful environment? For example, how would you predict heritability of plant flower size would change if there were a severe drought? Why? (1 pt)
The data below represent the range and frequency of wing lengths in a population of bats. All of t bats were determined to be full grown adults. Wing length (cm)- # of individuals- 12 16 20 24 28 32 36 4 25 57 83 64 22 5 a) What conclusions can you draw regarding the inheritance of wing length in this species of bats? Be sure to include info about the # of genes involved. b) Calculate the Mean, variance...
how would evolution affect this table 5. Feral pigeons (Columba livia domestica) have long been considered the most frustrating pest bird. Flocks of these pigeons pose a threat to crops, livestock, and human health as their large numbers can decimate crops and act as disease vectors for pathogens that affect both livestock and humans. However, in places like New York's Washington Square Park, pigeons are well-loved and well-fed members of the community. Controlling these pigeon populations has been a challenge...

a. Why is heritability necessary for natural selection? How would you expect a trait for which there is no resemblance between parents and offspring to change over time? b. Why is differential success among organisms with different variants of a trait necessary for natural selection? How would you expect a trait for which there is no differential success to change over time?
