Question

The slide generator in the figure below is in a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.0500 T, The bar of length 0.385 m is pulled at a constant speed of 0.500 m/s. The U-shaped conductor and the bar have a resistivity of 2.75 x 10-8 n m and a cross-sectional area of 8.50 x10-4 m?. Find the current in the generator when x 0.660 m. Note that the A in the image below is the area of the loop, not the cross-sectional area of the conductor and bar. 50.819 x Your response is within 10% of the correct value. This may be due to roundoff error, or you could have a mistake in your calculation. Answer #1

Induced emf in the loop, emf = B*v*L

                                   E    = 0.05*0.5*0.385

                                   E    = 9.625*10^-3 volts

resistance of the loop, R = rho*(2*L + 2*x)/A

                                 R = 2.75*10^-8*(2*0.385 + 2*0.66)/(8.5*10^-4)

                                    = 6.76*10^-5 ohm

so, induced current , I = induced emf/R

                               I = 9.625*10^-3/(6.76*10^-5)

                                 = 142.3 A
