Person added hot solvent to a mix and no crystals formed so he placed mixture in cold solvent, instantly, the crystals started to form But after placing the crystals into the vacuum, there was only a small amount of crystals there. So explain why he only got a small amount of crystals?

Hi

The solubility of the substances increasing at higher temperature and thus no crystals were formed.

On the other hand the solubility is lower at the lower temperature and thus some of the substance that was dissolved in the solute starts coming out of the solution.

When we place the substance in the vacuum .From Roults Law we know that

P*Yi=Psat*Xi

Here P is the total pressure outside

Yi is the mole fraction of the substance, Psat is the saturated vapor pressure at this temperature.

We know that the substance will be at some temperature and thus Psat and Xi both will be non-Zero and thus Substance will start vaporizing to create some external pressure.

It will vaporize till both sides becomes equal.

As a result of this only some amount will be left.
