Answer #1

Let us consider the downwards direction as positive.

Gravitational acceleration = g = 9.81 m/s2

Initial velocity of the heroine on the motorcycle = V

The roofs of the skyscraper are horizontal therefore the initial velocity of the heroine on the motorcycle is horizontal.

Initial horizontal velocity of the heroine on the motorcycle = Vx = V

Initial vertical velocity of the heroine on the motorcycle = Vy = 0 m/s

Height the second skyscraper is lower than the first one = H = 9 m

Time taken for the jump = T

H = VyT + gT2/2

9 = (0)T + (9.81)T2/2

9 = 4.905T2

T = 1.354 sec

Horizontal distance between the two skyscrapers = D = 16 m

There is no horizontal force acting on the heroine on the motorcycle therefore the horizontal velocity remains constant.

D = VxT

16 = V(1.354)

V = 11.8 m/s

Minimum initial speed needed to make the jump = 11.8 m/s
