Explain how IR spectroscopy could be used to confirm product formation. Refer to specific functional groups, provide characteristic IR band frequencies and indicate the type of vibration (i.e.. stretching vs. bending). In this experiment, NaOH is used as a base, to convert 5-nitrobenzisoxazole to 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzonitrile.
The starting material 5-nitrobenzisoxazole will not have band between 1500 - 3000 cm-1 and beyond 3100 cm-1
but product 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzonitrile will have broad band around 3300 cm-1 for hydroxy group, and sharp band at 2100 cm-1 for nitrile group (CN), therefore formation of band at around 3300 cm-1 and 2100 cm-1 can be used to confirm the product formation

11 Explain how IR spectroscopy could be used to following two compounds, by comparing: distinguish between the The C-O Stretch The C-O Bend The Aromatic Region C-H Stretch The two molecules will produce an identical IR spectrum al b) c) d) e) 12 What must take place in order for infrared absorption to occur? a) Electrons must be promoted from their ground state orbital to a higher energy orbital. b) Bending of covalent bonds causing the nuclei of the atoms...
1. Using the IR correlation table on the second image, indicate how you could distanguish between the following pairs of compounds by using infrared spectroscopy. Give two specific absence/appearance of wavrnumbers for each compound: 2. For this experiment, what is the purpose of adding acetone? Predict what would happen if you omitted the acetone in the experimental procedure. 3. Draw four different resonance structures of the triphenylmethyl cation. *IR correlation table PRE-LAB QUESTIONS 1. Using the IR correlation table on...
Product was formed successfully based on the exp. below (about 85% yield), please interpret/discuss HNMR/IR in as much detail as possible and assign peaks on HNMR (which peak represents which protons of which group, etc). Note: I already know how you determine the formation of the product so you can skip that part of part b). Based on this exp: Discuss the IR spectrum and what is the peak in IR that you can see for a specific functional group...
Can you please explain in simple terms the methods of this experiment? I'm having difficulty visualizing and understanding what is being done. I have copied and pasted some of the text from the article. Thank you! Abstract : Obesity, high-fat diets, and subsequent type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are associated with cognitive impairment. Moreover, T2DM increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and leads to abnormal elevation of brain beta-amyloid levels, one of the hallmarks of AD. The psychoactive alkaloid caffeine...
