    3. The wave heights h in the open sea depend on the speed v of the wind and the length of time t that the wind has been blowing at that speed. Values of the function h(v, t) have been experimentally determined and the results are recorded in feet in the following table. Here wind speed v is measured in knots and the duration t is measured in hours h(t, v)t 5 t-10 t 15 t 20 t 30 t-40...

    A capacitor is charged to an initial voltage Vo - 7.6 V. The capacitor is then discharged by connecting its terminals through a resistor. The currentI (t) through this resistor, determined by measuring the voltage VR(t)- I(t)R with an oscilloscope, is shown in the graph. 85 80 75 70 65 60 50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 ms) 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60 65 70 75 80 85 Part...

    35. In Chapter 1 acceleration is defined as a = ∆v. Show ∆t that on an inclined plane, the acceleration of a cart that gains 6.0 m/s each 1.2 s is 5.0 m/s2. 36. In this chapter we learn that the cause of acceleration is given by Newton’s second law: a = Fnet/m . Show that the acceleration in Problem 35 results from a net force of 15 N exerted on a 3.0-kg cart. (Note: The unit N/kg is equivalent...
