Answer #1

Answer 1:

Cell cycle can be broadly divided into dividing phase and non-dividing or resting phase. Meiosis is a special type of cell division which takes place during gamete formation in the germ cells.

Crossing over means exchange of pieces of chromosomes between homologous chromosomes. Crossing over leads to creation of recombinants or variations. It takes place during Prophase 1 of meiosis, and specifically during pachytene stage of prophase 1.

Ans 1
Crossing over takes place during prophase 1 (pachytene stage) of meiosis.
Ans 2 Sister chromatids separate completely during anaphase 2 of meiosis.
Ans 3 Envelope forms around each group of chromatids during telophase 2 of meiosis.
Ans 4

Homologous chromosomes are a pair of chromosome which carry the same set of genes at a given locus, and thus are equal in size and centromere position.

One chromosome of the pair is inherited from maternal side and one is inherited from paternal side.

Unit 3 Study Resource Meiosis • Process by which diploid cells create haploid cells NOT part of the cell cycle > only some cells ever undergo meiosis During meiosis I, homologous chromosomes line up to allow them to be separated into two new cells o They can become "tangled" during this phase, which leads to crossing-over (rearranging the alleles) O Result of meiosis I is two non-identical haploid cells Meiosis Il looks very similar to mitosis, in that sister chromatids...
