  1. Mitosis occurs in a body cell which is a diploid cell that undergoes one cell division forming two diploid cells having the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.

Meiosis occurs in a gamete-producing cell which is a diploid cell that undergoes two cell divisions forming four haploid cells having half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.

  1. Homologous chromosome: Homologous chromosomes are chromosome pairs (one from each parent) that are similar in length, gene sequence, and centromere location. Homologous chromosomes have the same genes at the same loci but the genes may contain different alleles. Homologous chromosomes are seen in meiosis cell division.

  1. Sister chromatids: A sister chromatid is either one of the two chromatids of the same chromosome joined together by a common centromere. This can be seen in both mitosis and meiosis cell division.
