Team identity is important not just to all the members of the team but also to others that interact with them. This allows a team to have a consolidated team vision and establish proper working relations. With a sense of identity, a team creates new opportunities for itself through the use of clearly defined structures and procedures. A team with a sense of identity, do not have a problem with understanding their value in the system. And, this allows them to leverage this position to the best of their abilities and provide the best possible solution for any problem they encounter.
A team which acts as a cohesive unit cover for each other's weaknesses and strengths. This creates a balance in power shift aspect of the team, where, proper communication and a sense of a personal goal allows any team which is acknowledged to be able to create further opportunities than the team which isn't well known.
External stakeholders can use this classification of to create a sense of benchmark for other teams to be compared with. A team that functions as one and is identified to carry a sense of purpose and goal when the aspect of long-term is considered and this is what interests stakeholders. They want to invest in a team that allows them maximum productivity with minimum interpersonal differences and this is important for any team with a sense of identity to work towards as a goal.
