Option D: Exergonic reactions proceed with a net release of free energy.

Exergonic reactions can be defined as the reactions that have a negative ∆G and release free energy during the reaction. Since the ∆G is negative, the reaction will be spontaneous. In the Exergonic reaction, the free energy release will occur, hence the total energy of the products will be less than that of the reactants and it does not require the need for external energy for the reaction to proceed. The exergonic reaction will lead to the conversion of complete reactants into products.
