Question

Discuss an alternative scenario to represent the data in the scatter plots. In this scenario, assume there is correlation but where it would be inappropriate to conclude causation.

In the first scatter plot, the points represent numbers of customers conducting business during the timeline of the quarantine. X- axis being number of weeks projected for duration of quarantine and Y- axis representing customers that are requesting services. The first scatter plot shows that there is a positive linear correlation between number of weeks advancing and number of customers which are doing business.

The second scatter plot represents number of jobs being canceled during the same timeline of quarantine. The X- axis representing number of weeks the quarantine is underway. And the Y- axis representing total number of jobs being cancelled due to the quarantine. As with the first scatter plot there is a trend of negative linear correlation. As the number of weeks on the X- axis becomes larger, the number of jobs cancelled on the Y- axis gets slimmer.

There are of course a few outliers that would skew the ability to get a more accurate depiction of normalcy for linear equations in both scatter plots.

Write a mathematical scenario to describe each of the scatter plots. 20 18 16 14 12 10 2 20 18 16 14 12

Answer #1
  • Answer :

In the first scatter plot , the values along x axis and y axis are increasing cooperatively. As we move from left to right on horizontal x axis the value of x increases and the value of y corresponding to these points also increases. Thus there is Positive Correlation between the values plotted along x axis and y axis. There are some outliers near the upper right corner of the graph also.

In the second plot, for the initial starting values of x, the value of y corresponding to the points is quite large, but as the value of x increases the value of y decreases. Thus there is reverse relationship between the variables and this reverse relationship is called se negative correlation.

& Here from the list diagram of the sealter plot we found that the two variable ndy are showing a positive asociation, And no
