Molecules with stronger intermolecular forces cannot move rapidly , therefore they do not posses enough kinetic energy to escape the liquid state. Hence we can conclude that molecules with higher intermolecular forces have higher boiling points.
A straight chain of carbon as compared to branched chain have higher surface area in contact , therefore straight chain have greater intermolecular forces (van der waals) between adjacent molecules.Hence we can conclude that with branching intermolecular forces decreases and so is the boiling point.
