Sex education in public schools is still a hotly debated topic. What are your thoughts? Do you think that abstinence only programs can be effective? Should comprenhensive sex education be provided?

Although sex education tends to be a hot topic amongst public school administrators, it is vital that sex education is implemented in the school setting in order for children to have equal access to a curriculum that touches over human development, sexual health, and so much more. I attended a school that practiced an abstinence only program and I feel that this is one of the greatest disservices; sex education goes beyond just the practice of sex itself, but it can help individuals understand their sexuality and reproductive health. It has been proven multiple times that abstinence only programs do more damage than good, those who are only taught about abstinence fail to fully understand repercussions that can occur if sex is practiced unsafely and in turn can be left with sexually transmitted diseases or an unwanted pregnancy. If an individual wants to abstain from sexual practices that should be left for the individual to decide not a public education system; a public education system should ensure that the health and safety of its students is at the pinnacle of their agenda, and sadly many systems are failing. Implementing a comprehensive sex education program would give children an equal opportunity to make their own decisions safely, and help them understanding the repercussions that can occur. Lastly, sex education can help alleviate sexual assault cases and teach individuals the importance of consent that many lack the knowledge of.

Yes, of course, sex education has to be provided in schools. Both of your opinions definitely reflect sensible facets allied with this issue.

Gone are the days when "Sex" used to be a topic towards which people used to be reluctant and they never talked much. But this resulted into problems, specifically to be faced by the adolescent boys and girls who beloged to schools.

Non profit organisations, social workers, volunteers, academicians and Governments have been initiating to trigger a constructive talk on the said topic. There have been guest talks, workshops, written material supplied and even an interactive platform provided by certain schools. There have been innovative ways like "Helpline" for school children if they want to share or enquire something.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in raising the awareness regarding sexual aspects when the boy or the girls turns to be an adolescent.

One better remedy to this issue can be inviting doctors and medical practitioners who can better scentifically illustrate and handle the queries by the side of the school children.

Further, my opinion/ submission is "The Indian way" of dealing with the sexual aspects is indeed an effective one wherein they emphasise more on "Control" than "Condom". Thus, this issue reflects the individual conscience more.
