Question

Data Set #2 It was reported in USA Today that from 1999 through 2003 the number of daily spam messages sent worldwide were y) Spam Messages Sent (Billions) (x) Year Date Number 1999 2 2000 ? 2001 4 2002 5 2003 2.3 5.6 7.3

The regression equation was determined to be: y? = 1.6 x ? 0.7 where “y hat" is the predicted number of “Spam messages sent” in billions and “x” is the “Year Number”. Using the model what is the predicted number of spam messages sent in 2004?

Answer #1

Solution:

We have given, Regression equation is,

\hat{y} = 1.6 x - 0.7

Here we have to find \hat{y} for given Date as 2004. This date will come for x = 6

Just input the value of x in above equation,

\hat{y} = 1.6 * 6 - 0.7

\hat{y} = 8.9
