In IUPAC nomenclature, longest carbon chain is selected in which numbering is done from that end from where OH get least position.

In alcohol, suffix 'ol' is placed after chain name.

If OH containing carbon contain two hydrogens then it is primary, if OH containing carbon contain one hydrogen then it is secondary otherwise it is tertiary.
