Question

just need help with part c.
can't quite figure it out, thanks.

In poultry, the allele B results in black feathers. Its recessive allele, b, produces yellow-splashed feathers. The heterozygous results in blue feathers. The dominant factors O and C are both required f any color at all in the feathers. Homozygous recessive at either locus results in white feathers. In each of the following 3 cases give the genotypes of the parental birds and their offspring, along with an explanation of the ratios. 5. a. Two completely white birds that produce a FIl, all of which are black. b. Two black birds that produce 54 black birds and 42 white birds. c. Two blue birds that produce 16 black, 47 blue, and 14 yellow-splashed birds.

Answer #1

In case of c genotype of the parents are BbCCOO and BbCCOO.

Genotype of offspring

Black feather bird = BBCCOO

Blue feather bird = BbCCOO

Yellow splashed feather bird = bbCCOO

The genotypic ratio is roughly 1:3:1 which is not matching to the ratio 1:2:1, genotypic ratio found during the self-cross of the heteroallelic condition. This data doesn't fit the genetic hypothesis. This data suggest that the experiments were not performed properly.

Imagine that you just went to the pet store and bought two black guinea pigs that are known to be heterozygous (Bb). You also know that black fur (BB) is dominant over white fur (bb), and that a lethal recessive allele is located only one cM away from the recessive b allele. You decide to start raising your own guinea pigs, but after mating these animals several times, you discover they produce only black progeny. What is the probability of...

Eye colour is determined by an incompletely dominant sex-linked allele and can be blue (b+), or yellow (b) with the heterozygote giving green eyes. A further gene (t) controls tail formation giving rise to a bent tail in homozygotes, t allele is dominant with respect to straight tail formation but is a recessive lethal.
