When did people with an educational background first begin serious influencing psychology? In what areas did they have the most influence?

I think after graduation in India the more influencing field for Psychology is Clinical psychology, many people after their graduation opt for master in clinical psychology, And i think the reson is quite simple they think they would work in a hospital or a medical field as a Psychologist. But nowadays with the awareness people are also showing interest in Industrial and organizational Psychology where they work with an organisation as part either Human resource team or part of learning and development department.
