Question

Hydraulic gradient

Question 3 (20 points): This morning an engineer made measurements in three observation wells belonging to an unconfined aquifer. Groundwater was found at the following depths: 10.0, 9.0, and 9.5 meters for wells A, B, and C, respectively. The hydraulic heads of the three measurement points are 150 (well A), 148 (well B) and 149 (well C) meters above sea level. If it is known that well A is located north of well B at a distance of 400 meters, and well C is located east of well B at a distance of 400 meters:

a) Draw the well field, equipotential line and flowline and find the hydraulic gradient.

 b) Determine the Darcy´s velocity and the average linear velocity of groundwater if the hydraulic conductivity is 800 m/day and the porosity is 25%.
