That process is called transcription. It takes place in the nucleus as all the factors that are required for transcription are present in the nucleus. RNA polymerase is the enzyme that carry out transcription. There are three types of RNA polymerase that are present in eukaryotes.

RNA polymerase I transcribe rRNA

RNA polymerase II transcribes mRNA

RNA polymerase III transcribes tRNA.

mRNA acts as the template for the translation. mRNA has codons which encode for amino acids. These codons are recognized by ribosomes which translate mRNA into protein.
