Question

Using the graph, predict the mass of iron necessary to react with 1.3 moles of sulfur.

Moles of Sulfur reacted (mol) vs. Moles of Iron Reacted (mol) y=0.9977x-0.0001 R2 = 0.9997 Moles of Sulfur Reacted (mol) 0 0.

Answer #1

This is the graph for moles of sulfur reacted vs moles of iron reacted. Where y axis denotes the moles of sulfur reacted and x axis denotes the moles of iron reacted.

Given relationship between x and y is,

y = 0.9977x-0.0001

Given y = moles of sulfur = 1.3 mole

Put this is equation to calculate x,

1.3 = 0.9977x -0.0001

=> x = moles of iron reacted = 1.3031 moles

Mass of iron reacted = mole*molar mass

= 1.3031*55.845

= 72.77 gram

So, mass of iron necessary to react = 72.77 gram
