a. Mass of copper wire                       = 0.2605 g

b. Mass of filter paper                        = 0.5233 g

c. Mass of filter paper + CuO = 0.8319 g

d. Mass of filter paper                        = 0.5005 g

e. Mass of filter paper + Cu    = 0.7300 g

Experimental Yield: Mass of CuO             = (c – b) = 0.8319 – 0.5233 = 0.3086 g

To calculate the theoretical yield, we need to know the molecular weights and the balance reaction.

Cu + ½ O2 -- > CuO

Molecular weights

Cu           = 63.5 g/mol  

CuO       = 79.5 g/mol

One mole of Cu gives one mole of CuO.
