Answer #1

If you are given a solution and test it to be pH 4, this is considered to be:

Answer: an acid

Reason: By sorensen's definition a value of pH lies between 0 - 7 ----------- is acid

pH = 7.0 ------------- neutral

a value of pH lies between 7 - 14 ----------- is base

If the solution is then diluted by adding water, the condition in the solution will become:

Answer: Still it is an acid, because water is amphoteric and behaves as a base with acids and forms hydronium ion [H3O+] in solution, pH further decreases to 3.xx due to ionization of H+ ions

Solve for x: -3 = log(x)

If logx = -3, then x = 10^-3 = 0.001

Answer: (x) = 0.001

Hope this helped you!
