Question
This is a Lewis structure example on my Chemestry book. But I am very confused about the number of valence electrons in Iodine on this specific structure: in general we try to achieve the octet rule, but on this structure Iodine have 4 lone pairs and 4 single bond. Since each single bond equals to 2 electrons, doesn't Iodine have way too many electrons?

thank you
