Answer #1

Q4 as question suggest that rock sample has carbon left so initially it would have Carbon only and it would be converting to stable isotope by radioactivity.

A)And by table we see that stable daughter isotope of Carbon is Nitrogen -14.

B) 6.25% of original parent nucleide is left so

After 1half yr , radioactive nuclie left is 50% of original.

After 2half yr , radioactive nuclei left is 25% of orginal (50-50/2)

After 3 half yr, radioactive nuclei left is 12.5% of original( 25-25/2)

After 4 half yr, radioactive nuclei left is 6.25% of original ( 12.5-12.5/2)

So 4 half yrs are done to obtain such sample which contains 6.25% of original parent nucleide.

C) to find how old the rock sample is equal to time spent in all life yrs = 4*time of 1halfyr = 4*(5.73*10^3) = 22.92*10^3 yrs

Radioactive decay occurs when a radioactive isotope ("parent" isotope) gradually transforms into a radiogenic isotope ("daughter" isotope) over time. This process is modeled by the following function: where r is the ratio of parent to daughter atoms, t is time and τΗ is called the halflife. The following table shows several parent-daughter pairs along with their half-lives. Daughter N14 Srs7 Ar4o Pb206 Pb207 Half-Life (years) 5730 48.8 x 109 1.3 x 109 4.6 x 109 0.7 x 10 arent Rbs7...

Question 75 5 pts Determine the age of the zircon mineral grain from a granite in the Sierra Nevada using the 14C to 14N method. The mineral has 5678814C atoms and 87655 14N atoms. The half life (T1/2) of this system is 5730 years. What is the age? Use the curve equation T = -1.4431n(f) 1. Determine Pi, initial parent amount (add Parent Daughter) 2.f P/Pi 3.
