In the case of carbocation a, it can undergo methyl shift to form a more stable tertiary carbocation, but not hydride shift.

Carbocation b which is already a secondary carbocation, can leads to another secondary carbocation formation through hydride shift.

Carbocation d is already a more stable tertiary carbocation. On hydride shift, it will results the formation of less stable secondary carbocation .
