Answer #1

1) HCl is added to t-pentanol to make OH group as the better leaving group which is followed by the attack of Chloride ion in the second step.

2) Seperating funnel is kept unstopperd during the addition of HCl to t-pentanol to avoid the bumping of t-pentanol due to the abrupt heat relasing.

3) Based on the density of aqeous layer and organic layer, two layers can be distinguished. If density of organic layer is more , then lower layer will be organic and similarly if the density of aqeous layer is more then lower layer will be aqeous layer.

4) t-pentanyl chloride is soluble in water: F

5) NaHCO3 is the molicular formulla of soduim bicarbonate , it is added to the reaction mixture to convert the unreacted t-pentanol into its salt form which makes it water soluble, Thus it is added to get rid of unreacted t-pentanol.

6) Theoritical yield  = No. of millimoles of Starting material * Molicular mass of product

14.92 g
