Answer #1

Answer: Yes, student can distill the two liquids by simple distillations. As the difference in boiling point is 88oC (which is huge) so if one compound boils (the one with lower boiling point) the other one nearly remains as it is as it will have nearly zerovapor pressure at that temperature, so in a nutshell we can say that, this mixture of two compounds having 88oC difference in boiling point is separable by simple disillation.

Answer: False

Separation by separating funnel is based on the principle of 'like dissolve like'. Means polar compound will be dissolved in polar solvent and non-polar copounds in non-polar solvent. So polarity is a necessary issue in separation by separating funnel technique.

    9. A mixture (solution) of 3 different liquid compounds is formed. Each compound has the same condensed formula of C4H10O. Separate analyses of these compounds confirmed that none of the compounds has branching of C’s from the main chain of attached C atoms. Also one of the compounds experiences a weaker interparticle force as its dominant force than the other two. (a) Draw 3 possible preferred Lewis structures consistent with the above formula and information. It is desired to separate...

Introduction: The technique used to separate an organic compound from a mixture of compounds is called Extraction. Extraction process selectively dissolves one or more of the mixture compounds into a suitable solvent. The solution of these dissolved compounds is referred to as the Extract. Here the organic solvent dichloromethane is used to extract caffeine from an aqueous extract of tea leaves because caffeine is more soluble in dichloromethane (140 mg/ml) than it is in water (22 mg/ml). However, there are...
