How does food packaging and the location of where food comes from have an ecological impact? What type of housing do you think would have a lower ecological impact, a single-family home development on large lots or a condominium building of the same square footage of living space? Describe your reasoning. (no wrong answer, just add your reasoning)
Food packaging and its ecological impact
Packed and canned foods, definitely have a negative impact on the environment because of the material used for packaging. Most often the packaging material for food products are plastic containers or bags, metals cans, cardboard(fast food) and paper bags. Many of these are non-biodegradable especially plastic. Globally tons of plastics are produced and their improper disposal causes harm to the environment. Plastics that escape the recycling process lands in the ocean and is a threat to the marine organisms. Transportation of food requires more further packaging and adds to the waste. These materials have a high carbon foot print.
Single family home or Condominium building.
Personally I feel, a condominium building has lower ecological impact because we save land and can have more space for garden or an urban eco park. It is more sustainable and eco-friendly because we share walls and prevent heat loss in cold countries which can further reduce the use of heaters. A Condominium building for 10 families will definitely use less construction material than 10 single homes.
Transport, food and housing has major carbon footprint. We need to make wise choices for these to mitigate the negative impact on environment and have a sustainable earth.

In this exercise, you will analyze the supply-demand equilibrium of a city under some special simplifying assumptions about land-use. The assumptions are: (i) all dwellings must contain exactly 1500 square feet of floor space, regardless of location, and (ii) apartment complexes must contain exactly 15,000 square feet of floor space per square block of land area. These land-use restrictions, which are imposed by a zoning authority, mean that dwelling sizes and building heights do not vary with distance to the...
