P-element induced can identify by parental and maternal cross or by using a large deletion that may take away the p-element. The mutation is homozygous. Therefore, if the deleted part takes away the p-element, there would be no complementation.

To make the red-eye phenotype, the wild type allele must have a dominant homozygous genotype (red). This will rescue the mutant phenotype because it is homozygous and it will become useless in the heterozygous phase.
