W = = = = EEE ! Cancer and its harmful effects According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US and it accounts for nearly 1 out of every 4 deaths. Cancer has turned out to be a more difficult health crisis to overcome, even with the advancements in modern technology and research. However, smoking is a habit that many Americans have picked up as well since the first tobacco products were introduced in 1492. Thus, smoking is arguably one of the worst habits a citizen can participate in because one has a high risk of developing cancer. Despite claims from tobacco companies on the therapeutic abilities of cigarettes, the risks associated with this industry has made it one of the most harmful choices for Americans to participate in. The usage of tobacco has changed significantly over the past century. The usage of tobacco became very popular in the United States after the Civil War. At first, tobacco was manufactured mainly for pipe-smoking, chewing, and snuff. In the early 20th century the growth of tobacco had grown and started to appear in medical books. In 1930, some researchers in Germany discovered the relationship between tobacco and cancer, more specifically lung cancer. Eight years later a respected doctor named Raymond Pearl announced that people who smoke do not live as long as people who do not smoke do. In 1944 the American cancer society began to alert people on the bad effects of smoking.

1) Smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths in united states each year. It is the leading cause of lung cancer, more women die each year from lung cancer than breast cancer. It diminishes persons overall health and effects every organ of the body. Smoking causes cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The people who even smoke not more than 2 cigarettes can show signs of heart diseases. Smoking makes it harder to get pregnant and effects overall health of the baby.

2) At the beginning tobacco began to be used during cultural or religious events. First time the tobacco was considered to be dangerous was in an essay titled Worke of Chimney Sweepers im 1602 which stated that we can often see illnesses in chimney sweepers which is caused by soot and tobacco can have same effects.

3) The first ever medical report that linked smoking to lung cancer appeared in 1920. Even after this editors refused to write about the disadvantage of smoking as they didn't wanted to offend tobacco companies because they were paying heavily for advertisement.

*The risk of developing diabetes is 30-40 % higher.

* Increases cardiovascular diseases.

* Increases risk of stroke.

* Increases level of Carbon monoxide (which is a highly toxic gas) levels in your blood stream. As a result yout stamina decreases heavily.

* Pregnancy probelms, miscarriage, decreases overall baby's health,etc.

* It can reduce sperms, cam reduce fertility.

* Lung Diseases.

* Increases heart rate.

4) Quitting smoking decreases the risk pf cardiovascular diseases. You can see the results just after 20 minutes. After 20 minutes your heart rate slows down. After 12 hours the levels of carbon monoxide in your blood stream decreases. Your blood circulation start to get normal within 3 months and the quality of lung function increases. With in a year you cut the risk of having a heart attack sharply. And after five to 15 years, your risk of getting stroke will be the same as that of a nonsmoker.

5) Whatever anyone say, one should stop smoking. If you are not so sure about what to do or what are the effects, just consult a doctor. There are many methods and programs out there by which one can quit smoking for life.
