ANSWER

Mucous membranes:

  • Composed of epithelia and connevtive tissue
  • Lines the large cavities or spaceswhich open onto the outside of the body such as the hollow structures of respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive tracts.
  • The epithelial lining of the mucous layer of the digestive tract is known as mucosa.
  • The mucosa in small intestine is intended for absorption.
  • Mucus serves to protect epithelial cells in the linings of the respiratory, digestive, and urogenital systems, and structures in the visual, and auditory systems from pathogenic fungi, bacteria and viruses. Most of the mucus in the body is produced in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Some mucous membranes secrete mucus, a thick protective fluid. The function of the membrane is to stop pathogens and dirt from entering the body and to prevent bodily tissues from becoming dehydrated.
  • Gastric mucus is a glycoprotein that serves two purposes: the lubrication of food masses in order to facilitate movement within the stomach and the formation of a protective layer over the lining epithelium of the stomach cavity.

Serosa

  • Serosa (or serous membrane) is a smooth membrane consisting of a thin layer of cells, found on the outer wall of the organs of the abdominal cavity known as the serous cavity. It secretes serous fluid, and a thin connective tissue layer. They secrete a lubricating fluid which reduces friction from muscle movement.
  • Serous membranes line and enclose several body cavities, known as serous cavities, where they secrete a lubricating fluid which reduces friction from muscle movement.

CONCLUSION :

Mucus acts as a protective fluid that protects the epethilial cells from pathogenic fungi, bacteria and viruses and prevent body tissues from dehydrating where as Serosa whose main function is to reduce friction from muscle movement.
