Comparison of a homeodomain (functional region) of GAPDH from Human and Mouse shows that only 22 of 80 amino acids are identical.  However, the function of each of the resulting proteins is identical. How is it possible for a protein to change over 72% still have the same function?  Explain your answer.

The functioning of the protein depends on the folding of the protein which gives the protein its 3 dimensional structure.The primary structure of the  protein determined by its amino acid sequence helps in the folding and intramolecular bonding of the linear amino acid chain that goes on to determine the protein's unique three-dimensional shape and structure and its proper functioning.In this case, even if the protein changes to over 72% ,it still has the same function in human and mouse as the 22 aminoacids that are identical would be moslty responsible for the proteins's three dimensional structure and hence its functioning
