What process could explain a situation in which alleles that are favoured by natural selection (i.e. those that confer high fitness) do not become fixed in a population?

'The random fusion of gametes' is the process which leads to non fixation of favored allele in a population. Because the naturally selected individual has both advantageous and non advantageous allele. The individual produces gametes by the process of meiosis. These gametes have equal chances of random fusion with other gametes during fertilisation. That's why the unfavored allele persists in the population.
